Places

Agnes Obel’s Berlin

Danish singer Agnes Obel is at home in Berlin. Here, she highlights her favorite haunts in the city she fell in love with ten years ago.

Cafes and restaurants

Prinzessinnengarten

I usually go to this urban farm project with a garden café, a green oasis in the heart of Kreuzberg, with my band after we’ve finished rehearsing for the day.

This Italian restaurant serves awesome food. It is located in an old laundromat and they have a really nice backyard.

Mmaah

Because there’s outdoor seating, this Korean kiosk, hidden away in a small grove at the edge of the former airfield, is the perfect place to have a spot of lunch if I’m out with my dog, Woody.

You can get a coffee, rent a bike or pick up a pair of inline skates on the way to the giant Tempelhof Park at this small hole-in-the-wall café.

In the mornings, after we’ve been out walking, we stop at the Two Planets café for a coffee – Woody thinks it’s his home!

Treptower Park

After a day’s rehearsal, we like to go to Treptower Park for a picnic and enjoy its waterfront location. In the mornings, I take my dog for a walk here.

Tempelhofer Feld

The former Tempelhof airport has been preserved as a huge recreational area for Berlin residents. It’s a very special experience to walk down towards the field and see the light at the end of the street where the huge space opens up. In what other big city could you do that?

Cinemas

Ladenkino

This is an informal and very pleasant place to be. You can bring your own drink, or your dog if you want. It’s like a huge living room. They also frequently show arthouse movies.

SchwuZ

A gay club where I played the promo for my new album. It was the first time that I’d played it live, so it was nice to do it in a relaxed place with all of my friends.
